Working visit to the Centre (Agency) for Variety Testing (COBORU), Poland. From August 31 - September 4, 2015, in accordance with the contract between ACED, USAID and COBORU we participated in a training program on "testing, registration and patent protection of plant varieties"

During this training 15 delegates attended from Moldova. The opening was on August 31 at the headquarters of the COBORU, presented by Director of the Center, prof. dr. hab. Edward Gacek. We were acquainted with the organizational structure of the Centre COBORU, Laws and regulations in Poland and European Union. We talked about the organization and State structure regarding patent protection of plant varieties (DUS test) and test the value for cultivation and use (VCU test).

On September 1 were carried out practical lessons at Headquarters for Variety Testing in Slupia Welka, they showed adjustable temperature cold rooms for storage of seed samples (4 ° C). It was presented also agricultural machinery for performing testing of plant varieties, packaging, weighing and checking of seed received from applicants and sending them at areas of testing.

We got acquainted with DUS, VCU tests in open field for tomatoes, beans, onions, lettuce, cabbage and different types of herbs, etc.

On September 2 we visited the town Zybiszów Testing Station (Wrocław province). At this station are tested decorative and perennial crops. Were presented Testing methods and patent protection of varieties. So we have seen and decorative crops tests and reference collection. Also We achieved practical lessons in the field.

On September 3 we visited Station Testing for vegetable crops in Węgrzce (province Kraków).

The same test methods have been presented, practical lessons, and we saw the laboratories for chemical analysis.

On September 4, we visited the Research Institute of Horticulture - Department of Testing, Brzezna. We got acquainted with testing, registration, patent protection of varieties of shrubs (raspberry, blackberry) and different types of horticultural crops.
